Chiefs Intense Rally Nets Winner

February 25, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release

It was a back and forth battle that saw high levels of intensity, hitting, and a dramatic comeback by the Johnstown Chiefs. The Chiefs rallied for a 5-4 shoot-out win over the Dayton Bombers, on home ice. The win gave Mike Betz his first professional win.

The Chiefs raced out to a 1-0 lead, just 25 seconds into the game, as defenseman Brett Peteson forced a puck behind Bomber goalie, David Currie.

After the Bombers tied the game a few minutes later, Jean Desrochers' aggressive forecheck paid dividends. Desrochers pressured Currie, who was attempting to play the puck. Desrochers blocked the attempt, and put the puck into the empty net for his 11th of the year.

The Bombers scored three unanswered goals, from the seven minute mark of the first period to the eleven minute mark of period two, to lead 4-2. A.J. MacLean netted his 5th of the year and second of the game, followed by Paul Kelly's 9th of the year and Tim Konsorada's 12th.

The Chiefs dominated the game from the midway point of the second period to the conclusion. The Chiefs held the Bombers to 15 shots of the final 40 minutes, and few scoring chances.

Justin Kelly converted a wrap-around six minutes into the third period, to pull the Chiefs within one. It was Kelly's 22nd.

Joe Tallari's 17th of the year tied the game with just over four minutes to go. He took a feed from Desrochers, and squeaked it through Currie.

With the shoot-out tied at 2, Justin Kelly was the final shooter. Kelly got just enough wood on the shot to beat Currie, sending 2843 fans home happy. The Chiefs registered 42 shots on former Chief goalie, David Currie, who was brilliant in his return to Flood City.

The Chiefs host the Trenton Titans, Sunday at 3pm. It is Heluva Good Quality Food Kids day, to wrap up U.S. Army weekend. All child tickets are free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Call 1-800-CHF-TiXX for details...
