Lynx Kick Off 'It\'s Spooky To Be Hungry' Campaign
October 12, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
With a sold-out crowd of more than 5,500 people expected for Opening Night of the 2004-05 ECHL Season, the Augusta Lynx are hoping there will be strength in those numbers to help one of the CSRA's most noble causes.
The Lynx are asking fans attending the Oct. 22 season opener at home against the Gwinnett Gladiators to donate canned food items to help kick off the "It's Spooky to be Hungry" annual food drive. And to give back to our generous fans, the Lynx are offering a "Buy one-Get One Free" voucher for tickets to a future Lynx game during the 2004-05 Season.
Founded in 1995 by longtime Lynx Season Ticket Holder Evelyn Browne, "It's Spooky to be Hungry" has grown from grass-roots group that began collecting food in three Columbia County neighborhoods, to more than 160 neighborhoods, schools and businesses around the Augusta area. During last year's drive, the organization and its 1,600-plus volunteers collected more than 61,000 pounds of food and more than $31,000 in one day, all of which was donated to our local food bank.
Along with the Oct. 22 collection at our Opening Night Game, the Lynx will also be collecting canned food for "It's Spooky to be Hungry" at all community appearances in October and during the first week of November. Buy One-Get One Free ticket vouchers for future Lynx games will also be given away with each donation at our satellite collections.
The goal is to help "Spooky" surpass last year's collection when the group holds its "Celebration Weigh-In" at the Golden Harvest Food Bank on Nov. 4.
"Evelyn Browne is a true hero for her tireless efforts with It's Spooky to be Hungry, and the Lynx are thrilled to have an opportunity to help in this wonderful cause," Lynx Assistant General Manager Rob Mueller said.
A very limited amount of tickets are still available for Opening Night as the Lynx play host to rival Gwinnett at 7:35 pm. Seats may be purchased through the Lynx office at 712 Telfair St., through all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or Comcast subscribers can take advantage of the special Comcast Group Rate by calling (706) 724-4ICE.
