Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (October 12, 2004) - The Trenton Titans announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Jay Leach.

"We're excited to have Jay back," said Mike Havliand, Titans Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "He played very well for this team last season. His size and skating ability will definitely help along the backline."

Leach, 25, comes to the Titans after attending the training camp of the AHL's Rochester Americans. The fourth year-pro tallied 13 points (2g, 11a) and 45 PIM in 31 games for the Titans last year after being acquired from the Long Beach Ice Dogs in exchange for Marty Johnston. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) signed Leach to a professional tryout agreement on Feb 14, 2004. The Altamont, NY native chipped in 2 assists and 43 PIM in 30 games for the Sound Tigers through the end of the regular season and playoffs.

In a separate transaction, the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Titans' AHL affiliate, assigned left wing Mathieu Brunelle and defenseman Rosario Ruggeri.

Brunelle, 21, enters his second professional season after skating 64 games with Trenton last year. A native of Warwick, Quebec, Brunelle ranked second on the Titans in goals (26), third in points (56), and was tied for second in assists (30). Brunelle was originally drafted the Philadelphia Flyers in the seventh round (#201 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Ruggeri, 20, begins his rookie year after compiling 48 points (12G, 36A), 98 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating in 65 games for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL. The Montreal, Quebec native recorded 112 points (24G, 88A) and 301 PIM over 204 career QMJHL games with Montreal and Chicoutimi from 2000-04. Ruggeri was drafted by Flyers in the fourth round (#105 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

In other moves, the Trenton Titans released goalie George Bosak, defenseman Brian Escobedo and forwards Philippe Choiniere and Ryan Shields.
