LYNX DAILY - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2

LAST NIGHT'S GAME Seattle 77, Minnesota 75

With one well-place three-point bomb with 18.6 seconds left, Seattle guard Betty Lennox not only won the game for her team, but ended the Lynx' slim hopes of a playoff berth. With the loss on Tuesday, Minnesota fell to 9-19, and were officially eliminated from playoff contention. Still, their effort in the face of steep odds was impressive as they led much of the evening and controlled tempo against fourth-place Seattle. Kristen Mann broke out of a 7-35 slump in the past seven contests to lead the Lynx with a career-high 19 points. But Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson proved too much for the Lynx in the end. Bird scored 21 and dished out seven assists, while Jackson chipped in 20 points.

NEXT UP

Minnesota at Indiana - Thursday, Aug. 3, at Conseco Fieldhouse (6:00 p.m.)

The Lynx hope they have the cure for the Fever to complete their first series sweep of the season when the teams meet in Indianapolis on Thursday. On June 2, the Lynx topped Indiana 92-87 behind Seimone Augustus' 31-point effort. This time, however, they will have to deal with the Fever's All-Star forward Tamika Catchings who was injured when the teams first met. Catchings leads the team in scoring (16.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg). The Fever lead the all-time series 6-5.

AUGUSTUS NAMED TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM The Minnesota Lynx and the USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team Committee today announced that Lynx rookie guard Seimone Augustus has been named to the 2006 USA Basketball Women's World Championship Team. The 15th FIBA World Championship is scheduled to be played Sept. 12-23 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Also named to the team on Tuesday were Yolanda Griffith (Sacramento Monarchs) and Alana Beard (Washington Mystics). The selections were made by the USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team Committee.

LYNX HOLD GREAT BASKETBALL DRIBBLE The Eighth Annual U.S. Bank Minnesota Lynx Great Basketball Dribble, the team's yearly breast cancer fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 prior to the Lynx' game against the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Great Basketball Dribble raises funds to support breast cancer research and education in Minnesota, with all the proceeds from this year's event benefiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In seven-plus seasons, the Lynx have raised over half-a-million dollars for breast cancer research in the state of Minnesota through this signature event and other initiatives.

The Great Basketball Dribble, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at Target Center on Aug. 6, is a 2.5-mile walk (or dribble - basketballs are optional) through downtown Minneapolis. The registration fee for the event is $25 per participant and includes a T-shirt, refreshments, entertainment and a ticket to the Lynx game that evening against San Antonio (6 p.m. tip-off)
