NEW YORK (August 1, 2006) - The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced today that Carla McGhee has been named Director of Player Personnel. In this role, McGhee will be responsible for all player-related matters and issues including collegiate & international player evaluation, player marketing and programs, rookie orientation, player appearances throughout the year and tuition assistance. She will also work with various other WNBA departments regarding league business. McGhee will report to Renee Brown, WNBA Chief of Basketball Operations and Player Relations.

"As a former WNBA player and college coach, Carla brings a wealth of basketball experience to the WNBA, and we are extremely excited to have her join the league office," said Brown. "We know Carla shares our league's vision and will be instrumental in working with the players and helping to continue to move the WNBA forward."

A former player, McGhee enjoyed a successful career on the court that included four years in the WNBA with the now-defunct Orlando Miracle. She was selected 44th overall in the 1999 WNBA draft by Orlando following stints with the ABL's Atlanta Glory and overseas in Germany, France, Turkey, South Korea, Spain, Italy and Greece. McGhee was also a member of the gold-medal winning 1996 United States Olympic Team.

Following her playing career, McGhee joined the collegiate ranks as an assistant coach under Dawn Staley at Temple University (2003-04) and under Nell Fortner at Auburn University (2004-06).

McGhee, a former letter-winner at the University of Tennessee, helped lead the Lady Vols to national titles in 1987 as a freshman and again in 1989 as a junior.

McGhee currently serves on the 20 and under USA Basketball Committee and has also worked as a sideline reporter for ESPN telecasts during the 2005 WNBA season.
