Minnesota Lynx News Release
LAST NIGHT'S GAME Seattle 74, Minnesota 66 Despite a season-high 32 from Seimone Augustus, the Lynx could not weather the Seattle Storm on Wednesday night. Former Lynx guard Betty Lennox scored 15 points, including three three-pointers at crucial moments to give the Storm the victory. The Lynx came in with the goal of shutting down Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird, and they did a good job of it as the two All-Decade Team members were held to a combined 17 points. But Lennox (15 points, 7 rebounds), Janell Burse (14 points, 6 rebounds), and Tiffani Johnson (13 points, 6-8 from the field) all chipped in to lead their team to victory. Kristin Mann had a solid night for the Lynx with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
UP NEXT The Lynx will look to return to the winning ways they were developing before Wednesday's loss when they face the Silver Stars Friday in San Antonio. Last Friday, the Lynx also traveled to the AT&T Center and came away with an 86-79 victory. Seimone Augustus had 27 points in the game that snapped Minnesota's 10-game road losing streak. The Lynx hold the all-time series lead over San Antonio 15-10 and have won 10 of the last 13 meetings between the clubs.
LYNX HOLD GREAT BASKETBALL DRIBBLE The Eighth Annual U.S. Bank Minnesota Lynx Great Basketball Dribble, the team's yearly breast cancer fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 prior to the Lynx' game against the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Great Basketball Dribble raises funds to support breast cancer research and education in Minnesota, with all the proceeds from this year's event benefiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In seven-plus seasons, the Lynx have raised over half-a-million dollars for breast cancer research in the state of Minnesota through this signature event and other initiatives.
The Great Basketball Dribble, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at Target Center on Aug. 6, is a 2.5-mile walk (or dribble - basketballs are optional) through downtown Minneapolis. The registration fee for the event is $25 per participant and includes a T-shirt, refreshments, entertainment and a ticket to the Lynx game that evening against San Antonio (6 p.m. tip-off).
AUGUSTUS ALL-STAR VOTING RETURNS Seimone Augustus is third among all Western Conference guards in votes received (10,910) after the first returns in the 2006 WNBA All-Star Balloting program. She trails Seattle's Sue Bird and Phoenix' Diana Taurasi. Augustus, the first overall pick of the 2006 WNBA Draft, currently ranks third in the league in scoring (22.8 ppg), 17th in field goal percentage (.490), 14th in free throw percentage (.861) and fifth in minutes (32.5 mpg). The 2006 WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the New York Liberty on Wednesday, July 12 at Madison Square Garden. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
JONES' SURGERY SUCCESSFUL Lynx guard Chandi Jones underwent successful knee surgery Tuesday morning for a torn meniscus in her left knee. Team physician Dr. Joel Boyd performed the surgery. An initial timeline of three-to-four weeks has been set for her return. Jones, who was acquired by the Lynx in a trade on July 30, 2005, averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 28.1 minutes per game in 10 games with the Lynx following the trade. In 62 career WNBA games with the Lynx (2005) and Detroit Shock (2004, 2005), the Houston, Texas, native has averaged 5.0 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 16.2 minutes per game.
RADIO BROADCAST All games can be heard on the radio home of the Lynx on BOB 106 with Brian Sieman calling the action.
