MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Eighth Annual U.S. Bank Minnesota Lynx Great Basketball Dribble, the team's yearly breast cancer fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 prior to the Lynx' game against the San Antonio Silver Stars.
The Great Basketball Dribble raises funds to support breast cancer research and education in Minnesota, with all the proceeds from this year's event benefiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In seven-plus seasons, the Lynx have raised over half-a-million dollars for breast cancer research in the state of Minnesota through this signature event and other initiatives.
"The Great Basketball Dribble is an event that the entire Lynx organization is extremely proud of," said Lynx President Chris Wright. "For the seven-plus years of the team's existence, breast health awareness has been a major initiative and we've been successful in raising funds that benefit research and education right here in Minnesota. We're expecting this year's event to be the best yet."
"Breast health awareness is extremely important to me and my family, being that my mom is a survivor," said Lynx guard Amber Jacobs. "I encourage all Lynx fans as well as those impacted by breast cancer to come participate in this year's event. Also, I want to thank the Mayo Clinic for all they do in helping to find a cure."
The Great Basketball Dribble, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at Target Center on Aug. 6, is a 2.5-mile walk (or dribble - basketballs are optional) through downtown Minneapolis. The registration fee for the event is $25 per participant. The registration includes a T-shirt, refreshments, entertainment and a ticket to the Lynx game that evening against San Antonio (6 p.m. tip-off). Additionally, the first 500 registrants will receive a basketball for the event courtesy of U.S. Bank. Lynx players and coaches will be in attendance to kick-off the event.
