RHP Curtis Partch (1-0, 1.80) vs. LHP Fabian Williamson (1-0, 1.80)

THE HILLCATS: Yesterday the Hillcats topped the Red Sox 5-3 in game two of a three-game series at City Stadium...The win snapped a three-game slide for Lynchburg and they evened up their record on this homestand at 3-3...Tonight is the final game of the three-game set with the Sox and the last game of a seven-game homestand for the Cats to open the season...

VS. SALEM: The Hillcats went 10-10 against the Red Sox in the 460 series last season and were 5-5 at Calvin Falwell Field...In the post-season the Cats swept the Sox three games to none in the Mills Cup Championship...In the all-time series Salem leads 156-138 during the regular season, and they are 67-80 in the Hill City after splitting the first two games of this series...

RIVALRY RENEWED: This series marks the rematch of the 2009 Mills Cup Championship Series...The Hillcats swept the Red Sox three game to none to capture the 2009 Carolina League crown...Last season was the first time the two teams met with the league title on the line and it was the third time they met in post-season play...The Lynchburg White Sox defeated the Salem Rebels in 1968 in a one-game playoff...In 1988 the Lynchburg Red Sox defeated the Salem Buccaneers two games to one in the NDCS...

SIGNS OF LIFE: A shuffled line-up for the Hillcats produced a season-high five runs and eight hits (tied for the season best) in the victory yesterday...Prior to yesterdays game, Lynchburg had plated just three runs in their last three games and scored ten runs through five contests...Entering the third inning of the game yesterday the Cats had scored three runs in their previous 31 innings, they went on to score four runs in the next three frames to take a lead they would not relinquish...have scored just three runs in their last three games and they have lost all of those contests...

SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED: The line-up yesterday for the Hillcats featured seven players batting in a new spot in the line-up...Of those seven hitters, five of them had at least one hit and six of the seven reached base safely...OF Josh Fellhauer, who had batted second through the first five games, hit lead-off for the first time this season and went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a walk...

STARTING OUT STRONG: Thus far this season the Hillcats starters have a combined record of 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA (four earned runs in 25 and 1/3 innings)...Last night RHP Lance Janke allowed just two runs in six innings, but took the tough luck loss...He was the first Cats starter that has allowed more than one run in a start...

NOT FAIR: LHP Matt Fairel tossed six innings yesterday without allowing a hit or a run in earning his second victory in two starts this season...The only man who reached against the lefty was on a second inning error...Fairel has not allowed a run in 11 and 1/3 innings of work this season and his current scoreless innings streak (going back to last season) is now up to 32 straight innings...

MAKING THE MOST OF IT: INF Jose Gualdron got his second start of the season yesterday and went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three runs scored...It was the first three-hit game of the season by a Hillcat, the first game with more than one extra-base hit and the first time this season a Cat has scored three times in a game...Gualdron only had one three-hit game all of last season in 61 games between Low-A Dayton and Advanced-A Sarasota...

HAPPY TO SEE YOU: LHP Mace Thurman has saved all three of the Hillcats wins this season, including yesterdays 5-3 victory...He has allowed two runs in three innings of work, but thus far this season he is 3-for-3 in save chances...Last season RHP R.J. Rodriguez led the league with 27 saves and was named to the mid and post-season Carolina League All-Star teams...His 27 saves were the second most ever in a single season by a Hillcat and it tied him for the second most in team history...

HUMMING ALONG: INF Carlos Mendez went 1-for-4 yesterday with an RBI in the Hillcats game two victory...He has now hit in all six games the Hillcats have played and is batting a team-high .333 (7-for-21), which is tied for eighth in the Carolina League...Yesterday he drove-in his first run of the season...

BEST OF THE REDLEGS: Seven members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Reds organization prior to the season according to Baseball America...That list includes RHP Brad Boxberger (9), UTIL Neftali Soto (13), SS Miguel Rojas (17), RHP Mark Serrano (24), OF Josh Fellhauer (26), INF Cody Puckett (28) and C Devin Mesoraco (30)...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: LHP Fabian Williamson was acquired by the Red Sox last year in a trade with the Seattle Mariners...He first pitched professionally in 2007 with the AZL Mariners where he went 6-2 with a 3.43 ERA in 14 games (12 starts)...He also made one start with Low-A Wisconsin and he took a no-decision and did not allow a run in six innings...In 2008 he threw for Rookie Pulaski in the Appalachian League and posted a 4-3 mark with a 4.10 ERA in 11 starts...Last season was his first in the Red Sox system and he had a 10-5 record with a 2.42 ERA with the Low-A Greenville Drive...He has made one start this season, allowing one run in five innings to earn the victory...
