Lunkers Sweep Doubleheader From Thunder Bay

Brainerd Lakes Area - The Lunkers offense came up big once again at Mills Field, as they swept the Thunder Bay Border Cats, 8-2 in game one and 3-2 in game two Sunday afternoon. In game one, Charlie Henderson got his final home start in the Lunker uniform. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He would get his third win of the season, going six innings and giving up two runs, striking out seven.

The Lunkers exploded for five runs in the Bottom of the 1st inning. Dan Olinger, Steven Brault and Casey Roche all came up with RBI doubles. Roche added his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the third inning.

Thunder Bay starter Cory Caruso only went a third of an inning before being chased from the game. He gave up five runs in the loss.

In game two, Kye Winter got the start for the Lunkers and was impressive, going the full seven innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. Winter picks up his fourth win of the season.

John Straka took the loss for Thunder Bay, going five innings, giving up three runs with one strikeout.

The Lunkers got the first run of game two. That run came in the Bottom of the 2nd, as Jon Crist's groundout brought home Brault.

The Border Cats responded in the Top of the 3rd with a Casey Selsor two-run single driving home Sam Maus and Cullen Mahoney.

The Lunkers would take the lead for good in the Bottom of the 4th. Roche's single brought home Brault, followed by a Crist sacrifice bunt scoring Vince Bruno.

The Lunkers improve to (10-16) with the two wins today. The Lunkers are back in action Monday night against the Mankato MoonDogs. It is the 99th home game in Lunkers franchise history. First pitch is set for 7:05.
