Bats split double header with Honkers

St. Cloud River Bats News Release


(St. Cloud, MN) The Bats scored early and often in a dominant effort to win game one of a double header by an 11-0 final. However, errors helped the Rochester Honkers take game two 6-5.

Kyle Stiner excelled for the Bats in both games of the two pack. The left handed infielder reached base eight times in as many plate appearances. Stiner scored four times on the night.

The Bats stormed Rochester in first inning. Five straight hits included a trio of singles by Derek Campbell, Kyle Stiner, and Carlos Lopez began a monster inning for the Bats. The Lopez one bagger knocked in Campbell.

One batter later, C.J. Gillman extended the lead with a two bagger that split the gap. Jeremy Banks doubled to chase home Gillman and push the Bats lead to four.

Runs continued to come in bunches for the Bats. Campbell doubled to begin the frame. Stiner delivered him with a one bagger. An error on a Carlos Lopez stolen base allowed Stiner to score. Lopez scored on a C.J. Gillman sac-fly.

A quartet of insurance runs came home for the Bats in the ninth. Lopez picked up three RBI's in game one. Stiner scored three times.

Austen Wisroth looked fantastic in his first game at Joe Faber Field since the home opener. The righty earned his third win, a complete game, shutout. Wisroth struck out six Honkers.

Three errors proved costly for the Bats in the second half of the double header. St. Cloud dropped to 14-10 in the second half, following the extra innings defeat in game two.

Bryan Haar tied the game in the fifth inning with a three run blast. Haar leads the Bats with seven long balls this summer.

These two teams clash Sunday in another pair of double headers.Jake Smith and Michael Fagan will take the mound for the Bats.
