Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (July 28, 2009) - Brockton Rox pitcher RHP Wayne Lundgren hurled six shutout innings, but the Rox fell to New Jersey on Tuesday night when the Jackals scored four runs against the Rox bullpen.

Brockton started the scoring in the fourth inning when 2B Melvin Falu scored on a groundout by C Chris Grossman. However the game was full of missed opportunities offensively for the Rox who stranded six base runners in the first three innings, failing to score until the fourth.

Lundgren and New Jersey starter RHP Ted Serro dueled through the first five innings, only to be interrupted by a 25-minute rain delay. Each starter came out after the delay and delivered another scoreless inning.

It wasn't until the Rox turned the game over to the bullpen that New Jersey cracked the scoreboard. In the seventh inning, 3B Mike Scanzano singled to center with one out to score the game-tying run. One inning later, LF Ryan Rogowski hit a two-run home run and SS Mike DeJesus followed with a solo shot to push the New Jersey advantage to 4-1.

LHP Rusty Tucker picked up the final three outs to earn his 15th save of the season.

On Wednesday morning, the Rox and Jackals will re-take the field for an 11:05 start. RHP Freddy Flores (3-1, 3.23 ERA) will face New Jersey RHP Stuart Pomeranz (4-5, 6.04 ERA).
