Tornadoes Win Three in a Row

Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER, MA--- The off day yesterday proved to be advantageous for Worcester coming home from a long road trip. The rested Tornadoes used a three run third and a five run sixth to stomp out the American Defenders of New Hampshire 9-7.

Zack Zuercher improved to 4-4 with his seven-inning effort tonight. The left-hander from Warwick, Rhode Island sat down nine Defenders (a new game high; his previous high had been eight also against NH) while walking only one. Dave Pellegrine and Eddie Pena gave up three in total through the last two innings, but preserved the win.

The five run sixth was powered by RBI singles from Chris Colabello, Nick Salotti, and Lucas Taylor (his first of the season). Jeff LaHair added his second triple of the year that included a pair driven in. Omar Pena made his return to the Worcester line-up in the nine hole tonight after missing forty-nine games with a broken hand and was 2-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Francisco Cervantes dropped to 0-1 in only his second start as a Defender, allowing six runs, five of them earned, in five plus innings pitched. Jerrod Edmondson slugged his twelfth homerun as part of the three run NH third.

The Tornadoes will send Ryan Quinn (0-0) to the hill for his second start tomorrow evening against Defender ace Nick Asselin (6-4). Worcester looks for their fourth win in a row overall and their fourth win in a row at the HIP. Wednesday night is Southbridge Night, half price tickets if you live or work in Southbridge, MA.
