Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton (Low A -- Midwest League PLAYOFFS)
@ Clinton 3, Cedar Rapids 0
Clinton starter Jose Garcia, who has been marvelous in the MWL (2-2; 2.89) after struggling in the Cal League through the season's first three months (4-7; 7.00), was brilliant in the LumberKings playoff opener, dealing seven shutout innings on four hits and a walk, fanning eight.
Kevin Richardson, coming off of a horrendous regular season (.223 / .306 / .391) gave Garcia a 2-0 lead in the fourth when the catcher from Gonzaga blasted a two-run shot before coming back four innings later to deliver an RBI double capping a 2-3 night that accounted for all three L-Kings runs.
Cesar Herrera dealt two perfect frames in relief of Garcia to earn the save.
The two teams head down to Cedar Rapids for game two of this best-of-three series tonight. Game three will be played in Cedar Rapids on Friday night if necessary.
