Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars staved off elimination forcing a third and deciding game with a 6 – 1 win over the Peoria Chiefs Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Cougar starting pitcher Brad Knox combined with two relievers to keep the league's top offense to just one run while scoring six runs to set up tonight's game three in the best of three series.

Game two would start just as game one did with both starting pitchers keeping the game scoreless through three innings. The Chiefs missed a golden opportunity in the top of the third inning loading the bases with nobody out. Brad Knox would work out of trouble getting a double play and a strikeout to end the threat. The Chiefs would score the game's first run in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out single into left field, John-Paul Davis scored from second as the throw to the plate was on line but catcher David Castillo had the ball kicked out of his mitt giving the Chiefs a 1 – 0 lead. The Cougars squandered scoring opportunities in the first four innings leaving seven runners on base, six in scoring position.

Kane County would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when David Castillo hit a bases loaded single into center field scoring Luke Appert, and took the lead on a sacrifice fly from Eddie Kim scoring Vasili Spanos from third to take a 2 – 1 lead.

Cougars starting pitcher Brad Knox was lifted after six innings allowing one run on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Justin Crowder came on to keep the one run lead allowing only two walks in the seventh. The Cougars would pad the lead in their half of the inning scoring four runs on four hits highlighted by a solo home run from David Harriman to take a 6 – 1 lead. J.R. Pickens shut down Peoria over the final two innings to win the game and evening the series at one game each. The Cougars bullpen continued it's stellar pitching and is a perfect 66 – 0 when leading after seven innings.

In game three the Cougars will send left-hander Dallas Braden to the mound to face the ace of the Chiefs staff Stuart Pomeranz in the 6:30 game tonight at Elfstrom Stadium.
