LumberKings Hand Devil Rays Sixth Straight Win

Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release


The game wasn't pretty but the outcome was. The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays won their sixth straight game today by a score of 5-4. The Clinton LumberKings beat themselves in today's three hour game. This win gives the Devil Rays 11 wins in the last 13 games.

The Devil Rays scored three runs in the fifth inning and two in the seventh and were hitless in each. Christian Lopez flew out to center to start out the fifth inning. After that, Jamieson, Cunningham and Rousseve were each walked by LumberKings pitcher, Kyle Rogers. With Ryan Bethel batting, Rogers threw a wild pitch which scored Jamieson and advanced the other runners. Bethel was put on with walk to load the bases again. Rogers then balked to advance everybody and scoring Cunningham. Rousseve scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by John Matulia to put the Rays up 3-0.

The seventh inning was a similar situation with a deferent pitcher. Julian Cordero started off the inning by walking Cunningham. Brandon Rousseve hit a sacrifice bunt and was put on base by a throwing error. Cordero then walked Bethel and followed that up with a wild pitch with Matulia batting scoring Cunningham. Matulia walked to load the bases and two outs later Rhyne Hughes walked to bring in Rousseve.

Wade Davis took the mound and pitched five solid innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while walking four and fanning three. Aaron Walker came in to relieve Davis in the sixth inning and picked up the win. Walker pitched two innings allowing three hits and an earned run. Greg Dupas tossed the final two innings to pick up his eighth save of the season.

The Devil Rays look to sweep Clinton when they face off again Thursday night at 6:35 pm at C.O. Brown Stadium. Thursday night is Thirsty Thursday where fans can get a beer or soda for only $1. After the game, "Like it's Going out of Style" will perform rock and roll cover tunes in the TDS Metrocom Left Field Bar.
