Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts scored in each of the first four innings on Wednesday afternoon as they took care of the Kane County Cougars 10-4 before 7,959 fans at Oldsmobile Park. The win improves the Lugnuts to 13-3 this season at home.
Kane County snatched an early 2-0 lead in the first, but Lansing answered in the bottom half of the frame. Joey Metropoulos smacked a two run double into right-center field that scored Sean Shoffit and Cory Patton to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lugnuts took the lead for good in the following inning when Shoffit lifted a three run homer over the left field wall to make the score 5-2. Shoffit finished the game 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
Lansing benefited throughout the game from a wild Cougars pitching staff. Kane County walked ten Lugnut batters and hit three more in the game. Two of the walks directly led to Lansing runs.
Three more runs were added in the seventh, capped off by Shoffit's RBI singe to right field.
Kristian Bell got the win for Lansing (21-12) after tossing five innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Jordan Timm notched his first save of the season by throwing the final four innings without allowing a hit and giving up just one run.
Kane County's (18-15) starting pitcher Jeffrey Gray took the loss after surrendering six runs on as many hits in 2 2/3 innings. Only five of the runs were earned.
The Lugnuts and Cougars will wrap up their four game set on Thursday night at Oldsmobile Park. It will be a Molson Thirsty Thursday, with beer and soda on sale for $2. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
