Burlington Bees News Release

South Bend, IN (May 10, 2006) - The South Bend Silver Hawks (15-18) ripped off seven consecutive singles to start the bottom of the fourth inning on their way to erasing a 5-0 deficit and recording a 9-5 win over the Burlington Bees (12-21) at Coveleski Stadium this afternoon. The Silver Hawks lead this series 2-1 with the finale coming up tomorrow night.

The Bees jumped out early against Hawks starter Ramon Sanchez. Chris McConnell, Carlos Arroyo, and JP Lowen laced consecutive singles in the first for the first run and Arroyo scored on one of three wild pitches from Sanchez in the opening frame. In the top of the second, Jeff Howell doubled, Jose Duarte walked, and Ethien Santana reached on an error by Sanchez on the mound to load the bases with nobody out. Sanchez then hit Valentino Arce in the head with a pitch to force in a run. Arce was shaken up and left the game, but was back in the dugout and feeling better by the end of the game. McConnell drove in Duarte with a sacrifice fly to center and Arroyo drove in Santana with a base hit up the middle to extend the Bees' lead to 5-0. Sanchez left the game with two on and one out in the top of the fourth inning and Kyle Wright finished the inning without allowing the runners to score.

In the bottom of the fourth the hit parade began against Bees starter David Henninger. The first five batters all singled with Frank Curreri and Steve Mena picking up RBI. With the bases loaded and two runs in, Yovany Damico replaced Henninger on the mound and gave up RBI singles to Manuel Ferrer and Greg Thomson before getting Leyson Septimo to popout for the first out of the inning. Justin Upton drove Mena with a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game before Damico got Trey Hendricks to popout to end the inning.

Damico (0-4) worked through four innings in relief and allowed the go-ahead run in the sixth. With two outs, Septimo and Upton hit back-to-back doubles to give the Silver Hawks a 6-5 advantage. South Bend scored their final three runs in the bottom of the eighth against Cody Harkcom. Only one of the three runs was earned after an error by Lowen at first. Septimo had the only RBI in the inning.

Wright (2-0) retired all eight batters he faced, including six by strikeout, and got the win in relief. Forrest Cory worked two scoreless innings and walked one. Jonathan Valverde finished the game with a scoreless ninth. The Bees didn't record a hit against the Silver Hawks relievers.

The Bees and Silver Hawks conclude this series tomorrow night with a 5:30 Central Time start from Coveleski Field. RH Carlos Rosa (2-3, 2.64) will start for the Bees against RH Cody Evans (1-3, 4.01) of the Silver Hawks. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 5:10.
