Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - For the second consecutive game at Ashford University Field, the Clinton LumberKings (9-9) were outplayed in every facet by the Quad Cities River Bandits (9-10). The River Bandits pounded out 16 hits in their 7-1 win and have collected 42 base hits against Clinton pitchers through the first three games of the four-game series.

L'Kings right-hander Carlos Misell, who entered 3-0 with a 1.72 ERA, allowed single runs in three of his four innings pitched. Quad Cities' Tanner Mathis drilled the second pitch of the game to the gap in right-center for a triple, and scored on Chan-Jong Moon'srun-scoring single.

Clinton tied the game 1-1 with one run in the home half of the first inning, thanks to a controversial call at home plate. Jack Reinheimer singled to right - extending his hitting streak to seven games - and swiped his eighth base in 10 tries. Two outs later, Tyler O'Neill lined a 3-2 pitch to left. Reinheimer, running on contact, appeared to be thrown out at the plate easily, but umpire Marc Lindsey saw no tag applied and ruled Reinheimer safe.

Quad Cities' run in the third came on Moon's second base hit. The second baseman lofted a fly ball down the left field line and O'Neill's full-extension dive caromed the ball into the L'Kings bullpen. O'Neill originally thought the ball was foul, but Moon never stopped running. O'Neill bobbled the ball once with Moon already at third base, and the speedster never broke stride scoring on the play.

Up 2-1, the River Bandits added another run in the fourth against Misell (3-1). Alex Gonzalez singled before Jobduan Morales knocked his first of two RBI doubles, putting Quad Cities in front by two, 3-1.

The River Bandits' hot hitting continued against relievers Mark Bordonaro and Rafael Pineda. Moon added a two-run single off of Bordonaro in the sixth and scored additional single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings against Pineda, completing the 7-1 score.

River Bandits left-hander Chris Lee lasted four innings and allowed just one run on five hits. Andrew Thurman (2-1) allowed only one hit in four shutout innings while striking out five.

Quad Cities had 15 hits in Clinton's 7-6 series-opening win, and have recorded double-digit hits in back-to-back wins. They had 11 hits in an 11-2 win Tuesday afternoon before knocking a series-high 16 hits Wednesday.

Marcus Littlewood doubled in the third and has now reached base safely in all 12 of his 2014 starts.

Clinton looks to split the series tomorrow with lefty Jake Zokan (1-0, 2.40) scheduled to make his fourth MWL start. He'll be opposed by southpaw Kent Emanuel (0-0, 3.00). First pitch is set for 6:30 PM CT from Ashford University Field.
