
Lugnuts Walk-Off With 6-5 Win

(Lansing, MI)- D.J. Davis had five RBI including a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Lansing over Lake County by a final of 6-5. The Captians have lost the first three games of the series and now five in a row.
Lake County (5-14) scored first in the top of the second inning. Paul Hendrix got his first of two singles on the night with one out in the inning. Hendrix advanced to second on an error and to third on a wild pitch. Josh McAdams knocked him home with a ground out and the score was 1-0. Lake County tacked on three more in the top of the third inning. The big hit in that inning was a single by Claudio Bautista, which plated a run. After the top of the third inning it was 4-0 Lake County.
Lansing (7-11) tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded an nobody out D.J. Davis laced a triple to left center field and all three runs came across to score. The score was 4-3. Davis came in to tie the game on a two out single from Mitch Nay. The score was even at 4-4. The Lugnuts are the first team in 2014 to bat around against the Captains. They sent nine men to the plate in the third.
The score became 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Carlos Ramirez led off with a walk. Ramirez took second on an error and third on an infield single. Ramirez scored the go-ahead run on an RBI ground out from D.J. Davis. The score was 5-4 Lugnuts. Lake County tied the game in the ninth with a run on an RBI ground out from Paul Hendrix. The game was tied headed to the bottom of the ninth, and Davis came to Lansing's rescue again.
RHP Adam Plutko (0-0) started the game for the Captains and did not get the decision. Plutko pitched four and two thirds innings, and allowed four earned runs. Plutko yielded six hits and two walks. Adam struck out a career high ten opposing batters. Alexis Paredes pitched two and one third innings of relief and allowed one unearned run on one hit. Paredes walked one and struck out two. Trevor Frank (1-2) took the loss. Frank pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed one earned run on one hit, with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Lugnuts countered with RHP Adonys Cardona (0-2). Cardona did not get a decision. He pitched two and two thirds innings and allowed five hits, four runs, three earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. The Lugnuts bullpen on Wednesday consisted of four relievers. The win went to Scott Silverstein after pitching the ninth inning. Silverstein (1-1) allowed one run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
The Captains will stay on the road in Lansing, MI on Thursday to take on Lansing Lugnuts in the finale of a four game series. The Captains will start RHP Mitch Brown (0-2, 5.40) and Lansing will counter with RHP Kendall Graveman (1-0, 0.44). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Cooley Law School Stadium.
