Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - D.J. Davis capped a 5-RBI night by driving in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to send the Lansing Lugnuts (7-11) home with a 6-5 walk-off win over the Lake County Captains (5-14) on Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Lansing's second walk-off win of the season extended the club's winning streak to three games, and was the eighth consecutive loss for Lake County.
Coupled with a three-run double on Monday, the 19-year-old center fielder has eight RBIs in the last two games and now leads the team with 15 RBIs this season.
The Captains tied the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout by third baseman Paul Hendrix off Lansing closer Scott Silverstein (Blown Save, 2; Win, 1). But after holding the Lugs off the board in the eighth, Lake County reliever Trevor Frank (Loss, 0-1) could not extend the game to extra innings.
Lake County took a 4-0 lead in the fourth, but the Lugnuts answered in the bottom half of the inning. Davis cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and Mitch Nay followed three batters later with a two-out single to knot the game at 4-4.
Lansing jumped ahead in the seventh when Davis grounded out to second to score Carlos Ramirez from third.
Relievers Chase De Jong and Brady Dragmire did not surrender a hit to the Captains with a combined five shutout innings.
The Lugnuts will look to sweep the Captains on a 7:05 p.m. Labatt Thirsty Thursday at Cooley Law School Stadium, with reigning Midwest League Pitcher of the Week Kendall Graveman (1-0, 0.44) on the mound. Lake County counters with right-hander Mitch Brown (0-2, 5.40).
Tickets are available for purchase via the Cooley Law School Stadium box office, telephone at 517-485-4500 and online at lansinglugnuts.com . To sign up for Lugnuts Alerts, text LUGNUTS to 80373.
