Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Friday was a goaltending duel. On one side, Dubuque Fighting Saints goaltender Lukas Parik made 34 saves and kept his team in it as part of a one-goal game for half of regulation. On the other side, Muskegon Lumberjacks goaltender Jan Skorpik kept the Fighting Saints off the board with a 22-save shutout as the Saints fell 3-0 at Mercy Health Arena on Friday night.

Owen Mehlenbacher's goal at the halfway point of regulation time was the only goal needed to get the win for Muskegon. He broke up a play at the defensive blue line and broke in alone to beat Parik up high to give the homestanding Jacks a 1-0 lead.

Down by just one late in regulation, the Saints pulled Parik for the extra attacker. Dylan Wendt broke up a play at the line and put the puck into the back of the empty net to double the lead. Philip Tresca added one more empty net goal after a second dice roll to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Saints' PK stood strong in a night where both teams were penalized plenty. Dubuque's PK eliminated all six opportunities they faced. However, conversely, Muskegon's penalty kill stopped all six Fighting Saints power plays.

Muskegon outshot the Saints 37-22 for the game.

Parik was forced into action to make a career-high 34 saves in the game. He made several key saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless, as Muskegon outshot Dubuque 10-5 in the opening period.

The Saints finish off the weekend series with the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday, April 10 at 6:10 p.m. Catch the action on the Fighting Saints Radio Network, or on HockeyTV.
