Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAVENPORT, Ia. - Anthony Alford and Richard Urena knocked back-to-back home runs in the third, starting a Lansing Lugnuts (35-24) offensive explosion in a 12-5 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits (39-19) Wednesday from Modern Woodmen Park.
The Alford and Urena home runs gave the Lugs a 3-2 advantage. Lansing scored seven consecutive runs from the third to the sixth inning.
The All-Star Urena leads Lansing with nine home runs.
The run support helped Starlyn Suriel (Win, 4-3) notch his first victory since May 14. Suriel pitched five innings, struck out two and allowed two runs. Chase Mallard relieved Suriel for the next three innings, striking out three and surrendering two runs. Mark Biggs did not give up a hit in the ninth.
Meanwhile, Lansing scored runs against three Bandits pitchers - one charged to starter Austin Chrismon, three on Ryan Thompson (Loss, 1-2), and eight runs against Jorge Perez.
Anthony Alford, Ryan McBroom, Mike Reeves, Rowdy Tellez and Tim Locastro each had multi-hit games.
The first four batters in Lansing's order - Alford, Urena, Tellez, and McBroom - combined for eight RBIs.
Tellez tied a season high with three RBIs to lead Lansing.
The Lugs continue their six-game Iowa roadtrip with the second game in the three-game set Thursday against Quad Cities. Sean Reid-Foley (2-2, 3.75 ERA) opposes Brock Dykxhoorn (3-3, 4.00 ERA).
The Lugnuts' next homestand runs from June 16-21 with games against Bowling Green and Great Lakes. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
