
Astros Officially Recall Velasquez to Make Tonight's Start

HOUSTON, TX - Effective today, right-handed pitcher Vincent Velasquez has been recalled from Double A Corpus Christi and will start tonight vs. the White Sox in Chicago, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced.
Tonight will be Velasquez's Major League debut. To make room on the 25-man roster, infielder Jonathan Villar was optioned to Triple A Fresno following last night's game.
Velasquez, who turned 23 years old on Sunday, was 3-0 in five starts at Corpus with a 1.37 ERA (4ER/26.1IP) with 37 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work. He also posted a .165 opponents' batting average, allowing just 15 hits. In his minor league career, Velasquez is 25-14 with a 3.26 ERA in 68 appearances (52 starts) with 346 strikeouts in 290 innings pitched.
