KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 2, 2015)- The Kannapolis Intimidators erased a two-run deficit in the second inning and held on to beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 4-2, Sunday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Sunday's win was the Intimidators 14th series win of the season and sixth at home.
Thad Lowry earned the victory (11-5), working 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out three.
Matt Cooper secured the save (11), matching a career-high 2 and 2/3 innings, striking out a career-high six. Cooper previously worked 2 and 2/3 innings with Great Falls (Rookie, White Sox) on Aug. 8, 2014. His previous career-high was five strikeouts with Great Falls on Aug. 13, 2014.
In the first, Greensboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead when K.J. Woods singled home John Norwood, and Brian Schales tripled to score Rony Cabrera.
Kannapolis tied the game 2-2 in the second, on a two-out two-RBI single by Toby Thomas, scoring Ryan Leonards and Cody Daily.
Kannapolis captured its first lead in the fourth, when Alexander Simon doubled, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a John Ziznewski sac-fly.
In the seventh. Michael Suiter extended his hitting streak to a career-high and team-leading 12th game when he singled home Ziznewski, making it 4-2.
Mason Robbins also extended his hitting streak to 10-games in his final at-bat in the seventh.
Michael Mader was charged with the loss (4-10), working 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Intimidators begin a three-game series Monday against the South Division leading Asheville Tourists. Luis Martinez (4-9, 4.62) gets the start for the Kannapolis in game-one.
