Charleston RiverDogs News Release
SALISBURY, Md. -- The Charleston RiverDogs lost 3-1 to the Delmarva Shorebirds in the four-game series finale, and season-series finale Sunday evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Delmarva (21-15 second half, 54-50 overall) jumped in front early with two runs in the bottom of the second. Steel Russell plated a pair with a two-out double, with runners on first and second, in his first at-bat with the Shorebirds this season. Jomar Reyes and Elier Leyva both scored to put Delmarva ahead 2-0.
The RiverDogs (13-23, 47-59) cut the Shorebirds' lead in half in the top of the fifth. Isaias Tejeda started the frame with a double to left and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Griff Gordon.
Delmarva answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning. Guillermo Salas led off the frame with a solo home run to left, the first blast of his young career.
Charleston left runners in scoring position in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. Tejeda and Collin Slaybaugh hit back-to-back two-out singles in the ninth, but Gordon grounded out to end the game with the tying run on base. The RiverDogs went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Jordan Foley (3-5) started his 13th game with Charleston, lasted five innings and took the loss. Alex Robinett pitched three scoreless innings of relief and only allowed one hit in his RiverDogs debut.
Josh Walker (7-2) went the first six innings for Delmarva and only gave up one run on five hits. Garrett Cortright recorded the final four outs to earn his 12th save of the season, the fourth against the RiverDogs.
