Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads bid for a third straight victory and a series win over the Hagerstown Suns fell short Sunday night, as the 'Dads watched a tie ballgame disappear over the final three innings in a 7-3 loss to the Suns at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads entered the 7th inning in a 3-3 tie thanks to an RBI double from Juremi Profar in the bottom of the 6th. Hickory starting pitcher Austin Pettibone then went back to the mound for a seventh inning of work for the first time this season, but right-handed hurler would seemingly run out of gas in the frame as the Suns broke through for three runs on four hits and an error by Pettibone to take a 6-3 lead they would not relinquish.

Prior to the 7th, the 'Dads fell behind 1-0 in the 2nd when Hagerstown used a pair of doubles from Matthew Page and Wilman Rodriguez to jump out ahead. The Crawdads quickly answered in the bottom of the frame however when Profar launched a 2-run home run to left for a 2-1 lead.

The score held until the Suns used two solo homers by Rodriguez and Andrew Stevenson in the 5th to re-take the advantage at 3-2. Hickory would once again rally though on the strength of Profar's bat, as the 'Dads third baseman roped an RBI double to left to bring home Edwin Garcia and deadlock the score at 3-3.

The tie score would disappear with the Suns 3-run 7th before the road team tacked on one last tally in the top of the 9th to finish off the 7-3 Crawdads loss.

Profar finished the game 2-3 with his third long ball of the year, a double, 3 RBI, and a walk. Josh Morgan also ended with a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a double.

Hagerstown reliever David Napoli (5-3) earned the win with one run allowed on two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts over three innings out of the bullpen. Pettibone (2-4) took the loss for the 'Dads after allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits and 2 Ks during his 6 innings pitched.

The Crawdads (64-40/20-16) will now take to the road for 7 games, beginning with a 3-game series in Delmarva against the Shorebirds. First pitch for game one on Monday night is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
