Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Hens started their roadtrip, coming off a win Wednesday but more importantly a historic day at Fifth Third Field. The history came from long time Mud Hens' slugger Mike Hessman, as he hit his record tying 432 home run to sit with Buzz Arlett for the most career minor league home runs. However, the Hens took their act to the wood bat capital of the world, Louisville, to take on the Bats in the first game the three game series. Headed to the mound for the Hens was Kyle Ryan, desperatley looking to secure his first win of the season for Toledo. His counterpart, right hander Donn Roach who took his 0-1 record into the ballgame also searching for his first victory.
Offense got started quickly off Ryan, as former Detroit Tiger Brennan Boesch singled for an RBI up the middle to score the first run of the game. Josh Satin followed Boesch with an RBI of his own, coming in the form of a double play for the Hens. After a Ramon Cabrera RBI single the score was 3-0 after just one frame in Louisville. Boesch finished the evening at the plate, going 4-4 with 5 RBI for Louisville.
The Hens responded with some offense of their own in the top of the second as Daniel Fields brought home Mike Hessman on a sharp single to left, followed by an RBI groundout from Trayvon Robinson. The lineups continued to go back and forth, as Loisville took their 7-2 lead into the seventh.Toledo's Steven Moya (2-4, 2 RBI) started the comback in the top half as he teed off on his 15th home run of the season to notch the score at 7-3. The poised Hens' offense was back at it in the eighth as Daniel Fields and Marc Krauss contributed RBI singles shortening the Louisville lead to 7-5 off Bats' reliever Carlos Contreras. Krauss continues to impress at the plate as he is now hitting .500 in his three games with Toledo. Despite the attack, the comeback fell short on a night that saw the Toledo lineup leave thirteen men on base, as Kyle Ryan fell to 0-9 on the campaign.
The Mud Hens are back at it in Louisville for game two of the series Saturday, first pitch is set for 6:05 PM. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
