Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S OPENER: Louisville and Columbus open a four-game series tonight at Louisville Slugger Field with Reds rehabber Homer Bailey on the mound. With a win tonight, the Bats would climb above the .500 mark at home for the first time since May 1 when they were 7-6 at LSF. The Bats are 7-11 in series openers this season, and 4-6 at home.

BATS EXPLODE FOR 20 HITS IN WIN: Louisville had arguably its best offensive night of the season Saturday night at PNC Field, scoring 9 runs while dialing up 20 hits in the 9-4 victory over the RailRiders. The 9 runs are the second-most they have scored in a game (trailing only May 23's 10-4 win at Indianapolis), and the 20 hits are the most the offense has recorded in over 2 years.

AGAINST COLUMBUS: The Bats and Clippers meet for the third of seven series this season, and third of four at Louisville Slugger Field. Each of the clubs' first 3 series this season have taken place in the Bats' home ballpark. In 6 matchups so far this season, LOU has outscored COL 32-27, with LOU batting .282 and COL batting .228. With the Bats' next win over Columbus, they will have their 200th win against them all-time.

REHAB STATS: RHP Homer Bailey is starting for Louisville tonight on Major League rehab assignment. He will be the fifth MLB rehabber to pitch for the Bats this season, joining Anthony DeSclafani (5/25, 30), along with LHP Brandon Finnegan (4/9) and RHPs David Hernandez (4/20, 23, 25) and Kevin Shackelford (4/22) have 7 combined rehab outings for Louisville this season, compiling an 8.38 ERA, with 18 earned runs in 19.1 innings on the mound. The Bats are 1-6 when a pitcher makes a rehab outing.

TRANSACTIONS: In addition to Bailey, the Bats also added Steve Selsky , who was activated from the disabled list Monday after landing on the 7-day with a right elbow contusion. Selsky last appeared for the Bats on May 29. In a corresponding move, Tony Cruz was placed on the disabled list. The catcher has hit safely in 3 of 4 games with 2 HR since being optioned by Cincinnati on May 31.

A 2x4 THAT WOULD MAKE HACKSAW PROUD: Two Louisville batters registered 4 hits Saturday night, Nick Senzel and Gabriel Guerrero. It was the first time that a Louisville batter had recorded 4 hits in a game since Tyler Goeddel on August 21 last season at Indianapolis. Yesterday was also the first time that multiple LOU hitters got 4+ hits in the same game since July 31, 2015, when Irving Falu and Brennan Boesch each had 4 hits in an 8-5 win over the Toledo Mud Hens.

- Senzel went 4-for-6 with a double, pair of runs scored, an RBI and his seventh stolen base of the season, in his first career start at the leadoff spot in 220 career games as a minor leaguer. It was Senzel's first 4-hit game since July 28, 2017 with Class AA Pensacola, falling a double short of the cycle in that game.

- Guerrero went 4-for-6 with two runs, two RBI and his second home run of the season. It was Guerrero's first 4-hit game since April 16 this season with Class AA Pensacola, smacking a career-high 3 doubles in that game.

GREATEST HITS: The 20 hits by Louisville's offense Saturday easily surpassed its previous-high output of 15 hits, done twice and most recently on April 27 at Toledo. The 20 are the most hits for LOU since April 20, 2016 vs. Columbus, when the Bats recorded 20 hits in a 16-5 win over the Clippers at Louisville Slugger Field. Saturday made for the most hits by a Bats team on the road since June 25, 2015, when LOU recorded 24 hits in a 15-2 rout of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at PNC Field.

SIX MULTI-HITS: Nick Senzel, Dilson Herrera, Gabriel Guerrero, Phillip Ervin, Mason Williams and Blake Trahan all recorded at least 2 hits in LOU's last game, the second time this season that 6+ LOU batters registered multiple hits in the same game. The previous occasion was April 11 vs. Columbus, when Tyler Goeddel, Rosell Herrera, Sebastian Elizalde, Brandon Dixon, D.J. Peterson and Trahan all registered 2 or more hits in the 8-2 win.
