Losing Streak Stretches to Double Digits for Marauders
August 16, 2018 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Bradenton Marauders News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - In the final game of a four game set that also marked the final matchup of the 2018 season between the Bradenton Marauders and the Clearwater Threshers, Clearwater completed a four game sweep and stretched the Marauders losing streak to ten games, a mark that sets a new Bradenton franchise record for most losses consecutively in order.
The first offense came in the bottom of the first inning for the home side when Major League rehabber Pedro Florimon tripled off Marauders starting pitcher RHP Pedro Vasquez to lead off the inning, and was driven in when Brett Pope committed an error to make the score 1-0 after one. Clearwater struck again in the bottom of the second for another run when Kyle Martin doubled to lead off the frame and was driven around on a two out double by Florimon, the second of his three hits in the Threshers win. The home side struck in a major way in their half of the fifth inning for the final three runs of the ballgame in a shutout victory.
Bradenton struggled offensively in all four games of the series at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, plating a total of only three run across the four games, and the shutout defeat in the final contest moved the club's overall record in shutout decisions to 4-7 on the 2018 season. Casey Hughston drove in two of the three total runs in the series as Mitchell Tolman scored two of the three runs, with the only exception coming from Brett Pope in the second game, a 6-1 defeat on Tuesday night.
The Marauders travel east for their final series of the year on Florida's Treasure Coast with a three game set against the Jupiter Hammerheads beginning Friday night at 6:30 pm with RHP Gavin Wallace on the hill for the Marauders.
