Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Pedro Florimon recorded three hits in a seven-inning rehab assignment with the Threshers, and Clearwater earned the series sweep with a 5-0 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday Night at Spectrum Field.
Florimon made his second rehab appearance with the Threshers after being added to the roster on Tuesday. Florimon is working his way back from a right foot fracture, and was placed on the Phillies disabled list on May 30.
Florimon went 3-for-4 on the night and was just a home run short of the cycle, with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Threshers (35-18) (67-54) remain four games up on the Lakeland Flying Tigers and are now 5.5 games up on the Dunedin Blue Jays in the FSL North, with 16 games left in regular play.
Clearwater grabbed the first run of the ballgame in the first frame. Florimon sailed a leadoff triple off the wall just to the right of center field, and scored on an Arquimedes Gamboa grounder, putting the Threshers up 1-0.
The Threshers tacked on in the second. Kyle Martin hit a leadoff double, and Grenny Cumana lined a single to left field to put men on the corners. With two outs, Florimon collected his second extra-base hit of the night, a double into right, pushing Martin across the plate, and extending Clearwater's lead to 2-0.
Clearwater 's three-run fifth furthered the damage over the Marauders (15-35) (50-65). Leadoff batter Kevin Markham was hit by a pitch, and Florimon lined a base hit into right field. Mickey Moniak brought them home with a two-run double that put the Threshers up by four.
Gamboa then grounded out to advance the runners, and with two away, Daniel Brito sent a ball deep into right field that wedged between the wall in right and the fence for a ground rule double that notched one more, boosting the advantage to 5-0.
David Parkinson (2-0) earned the win for the Threshers, slinging six scoreless innings of two-hit ball. Parkinson struck out three and allowed two walks in the start.
The bullpen came on to complete the shutout, combining for three scoreless innings.
Grant Dyer entered in the seventh, allowing two hits and striking out one while not permitting a walk, and Trevor Bettencourt tossed two scoreless innings of relief on four hits and recorded four strikeouts.
The Threshers start a three-game series at Hammond Stadium against the Fort Myers Miracle on Friday night. Alejandro Requena (3-3) will face Bryan Sammons (0-1) with a 7 p.m. first pitch in Fort Myers.
