St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Three Florida pitchers combined for a shutout in the Fire Frogs' 4-0 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at First Data Field.
New York Mets captain and third baseman David Wright continued his rehab assignment. In his fourth game with St. Lucie since Sunday, Wright went 0 for 3 with a pair of strikeouts. He played six innings at third base.
Florida starting pitcher Walter Borkovich tossed six scoreless innings in his third start for the Fire Frogs. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 17 to begin his FSL career. Borkovich gave up five hits and struck out four. He did not walk a batter and has yet to walk any batters in his three Advanced-A starts.
The Fire Frogs got on the board in the third inning with a Marcus Mooney RBI single. They took a 2-0 lead in the third when C.J. Alexander scored from third base on a Blake Taylor wild pitch.
Taylor was an out away from a quality start but he walked back-to-back batters in the sixth and Jordan Rodgers made him pay with a two-run single. The hit put the Fire Frogs up 4-0.
The Mets collected 10 hits, including three doubles, but they went 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position.
Jacob Zanon, Jeremy Vasquez, Desmond Lindsay and Anthony Dimino had two hits each.
Sean McLaughlin and Chase Johnson-Mullins combined to keep the Mets off the board for the final three innings.
The Mets (22-30, 49-70) head to Dunedin to start a three-game series against the Blue Jays on Friday. First pitch from Dunedin Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
