LAST NIGHT: The Tarpons led by a score of 4-2 after scoring twice in the 5th, but the Cardinals plated four unanswered runs to secure the series with a 6-4 win on Wednesday night...RHP Deivi Garcia started (5.0IP, 5H, 3R/2ER, 1BB, 6K, 78P/58S) and took a no-decision...Jason Lopez (0-for-3, Sac-F, RBI) hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the 2nd and Daniel Barrios (1-for-4, RBI) lined a go-ahead RBI single in the 4th...Dom Thompson-Williams (1-for-2, HR, 2BB, 2RBI, R) clubbed a two-run homer in the 5th (his 17th HR and 12th w/ Tampa)...Estevan Florial (2-for-5, CS), Hoy Jun Park (2-for-4, R) and Angel Aguilar (2-for-4) had multi-hit games...RHP Christian Morris (BS, 2) allowed a game-tying homer in the 6th (2.0IP, 2H, 1ER, 0BB, 2K< HR)...RHP Greg Weissert (L, 1-2) surrendered a pair of runs in the 8th (1.0IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 1K, WP).
LET'S GO STREAKING: Dom Thompson-Williams extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Over that span, the 23-year-old is batting .386 (17-for-44) with 14 runs scored.In August (14 games), Thompson-Williams is batting .353 (18-for-51) with 4HR, 10RBI and 9BB.
RUTA'S RAKING: Ben Ruta is batting .378 (37-for-98) with 20RBI and 14 runs scored over his last 26 games. The 24-year-old also leads all Yankees minor-leaguers with 35 stolen bases.
VS. PALM BEACH: Tonight will be the eighth and final game scheduled between the Tampa Tarpons and Palm Beach Cardinals. Palm Beach leads the season-series, 4-3. In six games against the Cardinals, Ben Ruta is batting .455 (10-for-22) with 5R, 5RBI, 2BB and 2SB. Dom Thompson-Williams is batting .379 (11-for-29) with 4R, 1 double, 1HR, 3RBI, 2BB and 1SB in seven games against Palm Beach.
GARCIA NAMED FSL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: On Monday, the Florida State League named RHP Deivi Garcia the latest FSL Pitcher of the Week. The 19-year-old tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts over 7.0 perfect innings in a no-decision vs. Clearwater in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Monday, August 6th. Garcia joins RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (April 5th-15th) as Tarpons to have received the award in 2018.
1,000 K CLUB: The Tarpons' pitching staff became the first to reach 1,000 strikeouts in the Florida State League this season. Tampa leads the league in strikeouts, totaling 1,132K entering today. That is 75K more than the team ranked second (Clearwater - 1,057). Tampa is averaging 9.28K-per-game and is on pace for 1,299K, which would crush its own FSL single-season strikeout record set last season with 1,215K.
STRIKEOUTS FOR A CAUSE: The Tarpons have partnered with the American Cancer Society. Throughout the month of August, each time a strikeout is recorded by a Tampa pitcher, money will be raised for cancer research. The Tarpons are asking fans to donate $1.00 for every time a Tampa pitcher strikes out an opposing batter in the 31 games scheduled for August. BABY BOMBERS: The Tarpons currently lead the league with 94 home runs. No other team has more than 89.
FOR STARTERS: LHP Dalton Lehnen (0-3, 6.32) will make his seventh start with Tampa...Last time out, took the loss vs. Lakeland on 8/8 (4.1IP, 3H, 6R/5ER, 3BB, 3K, 2WP, 86P/54S)...Began the season with Single-A Charleston, going 6-3 with a 2.67 ERA (70.2IP, 59H, 23R/21ER, 3HR, 3HB, 24BB, 73K) in 13 games (11 starts).
2017: In his professional debut, combined with the GCL Yankees West and Rookie-level Pulaski to go 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA (33.1IP, 40H, 20R/15ER, 9BB, 43K, 3HR) in 11 games (10 starts).
Personal: 22-years-old, 6-3, 222 - Burnsville, Minnesota...Selected by the Yankees in the sixth round in 2017 out of Augustana University...In his only season at Augustana University (S. Dak.), went 3-3 with a 2.60 ERA (52.0IP, 15ER) and 61K in 11 games (10 starts)...prior to transferring to Augustana, attended the University of Cincinnati for two years.
