Asheville Tourists News Release
CHARLESTON, SC- The Charleston RiverDogs celebrated their first Copa de la Diversion night on Saturday and became Los Perros Santos de Charleston. The Asheville Tourists struggled to combat the energy in the ballpark and Los Perros Santos on the field. Asheville was shutout by a score of 7-0.
The Tourists finished the game with only four hits. Grant Lavigne had three of them. Will Golsan had the other. Golsan's single came to begin the ballgame; however, he was caught trying to steal third later in the inning. Lavigne did have a stolen base in the fifth inning but was left stranded at second base. Asheville did not have a player reach third base the entire night.
Los Perros Santos was led by Eduardo Torrealba. The nine-hole hitter finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Torreabla's two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning led to a three-run frame and pretty much put the game away for the home team.
Asheville has allowed at least one inning of three or more runs to their opponents in 32 of their 36 losses this year. Tonight, they allowed a pair of three-run innings. Raymells Rosa and Jacob Bosiokovic did combine to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings out of Asheville's bullpen.
The Tourists will attempt to escape town with a series split. The final game of the four-game set is scheduled for 5:05pm on Sunday and Asheville will once again be facing Los Perros Santos de Charleston in a raucous environment.
