Rome Emperors News Release

ROME, GA - Lexington clinched a series win against the Rome Braves with a 5-1 victory on Saturday night. The two teams continue to move in opposite directions as Rome lost its 7th straight game while the Legends won for the 6th consecutive time.

Rome starter RHP Odalvi Javier got the loss but deserved a better fate. He gave Rome a fighting chance despite things unraveling against the Braves in the game-altering 7th inning which featured a rain delay and four unearned runs scored by the visitors.

Rome got its only run of the evening on a Hagen Owenby double in the 4th inning which scored Logan Brown. Leading 1-0 over the Legends in the Top of the 7th, Javier took the mound as the skies began to darken. Lexington outfielder Eric Cole stepped in and tied the game on an opposite-field solo homer out to left. With one on, two out and the score knotted up at 1-1 the rain began to fall hard at State Mutual Stadium and the game went into a 47 minute delay.

Once play resumed Javier was lifted for LHP reliever Dilmer Mejia. After two walks and an error gave the Legends the lead they pulled away thanks to a bases-clearing three run double by Nathan Eaton, making the score 5-1.

The Rome offense went quietly in the final innings as the Legends pitching staff retired the last 17 Braves hitters they faced in the game. Rome did not have a base-runner in the final 5 innings.

Javier went 6.2 innings and allowed three runs, but only one was earned. He gave up four hits and struck out 8 with one walk. Owenby was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Greg Cullen was 1-4 with a double.

Rome and Lexington conclude their four game series on Sunday afternoon. Game 4 is scheduled for 2 pm from State Mutual Stadium. Rome puts RHP Alan Rangel (4-4, 5.47) on the mound while Lexington starts LHP Austin Cox (4-3, 2.93).
