Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL have announced that the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup, sports' most prestigious trophy, will be on display during the Steelheads' Wednesday, December 7th game at Qwest Arena. Doors will open at 5:00 pm.

The Stanley Cup is on a 20-city ECHL tour to help raise money and awareness for the hurricane relief efforts. Fans will be able to have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup and donate to the ECHL/United Way Hurricane Relief Fund. The Tour is another addition to the NHL's charitable efforts, which have included a joint donation with the NHL Players' Association of $1 million to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief and a $1 million donation to WorldVision.

Steelheads' season ticket holders will have the privilege of a private viewing and photo with the Stanley Cup immediately following the game at center ice.

The visit will mark the Cup's second to Boise. It first visited the city on March 14th, 2003 when approximately 2,000 people waited in line at Qwest Arena (then, Bank of America Centre) to have the opportunity to see and touch it. Mike Bolt, the Keeper of the Cup, will once again travel to Boise adorning the infamous white gloves. Bolt said that Boise was the most enthusiastic stop of the five-city 2003 tour.

The ECHL has affiliations with 25 of the 30 teams in the NHL and there is one head coach (Peter Laviolette), 12 assistant coaches, 13 referees and five linesmen working in the NHL in 2005-06 who have ECHL experience. There have been 277 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL.
