
Checkers trade for Gwinnett's Fultz, add two more

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Derek Wilkinson, head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Checkers, announced today that the team has acquired forward Ryan Fultz through a trade with the Gwinnett Gladiators for future considerations. The Checkers also added defenseman Liam McCarthy and goalie Tyson Gajda.
Fultz, 27, tallied nine points (3g, 6a) and six penalty minutes in 11 games with the Gladiators this season. The 6-foot, 210-pounder from Rochester, Mich. enters his sixth professional season. Last season, Fultz skated in 71 games for the Texas Wildcatters recording 40 points (20g, 20a) and just 18 penalty minutes. He turned in career-best numbers during his rookie season (2000-01) with the New Orleans Brass with 50 points (21g, 29a).
Liam McCarthy, 26, comes to the Checkers from the Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL. A 6-foot-3-inch, 205 pound defenseman, McCarthy skated in 16 games for the Ice Bears this season recording three points (1g, 2a). He is a fourth-year pro from Belmont, Mass. Prior to his professional career, McCarthy enjoyed a collegiate career at Harvard University (1997-2002).
Tyson Gajda, 24, enters his second season as a pro after finishing his collegiate career at SUNY-Oswego. During his senior campaign, he went 17-7-3 with a save percentage of .904 and a goals against average of 3.01. He made759 saves during 1,615 minutes in net.
Chubby Auditions on Saturday
The Checkers will hold auditions for their mascot, Chubby, Saturday, December 3rd, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Pineville Ice House. Those interested need the ability to skate fast and well, generate fan involvement during the game and serve in a community relations capacity via visits to schools, hospitals, etc. The position is not full-time.
Candidates interested may come to Pineville Ice House with their own skates and come prepared with a skit or two to perform as Chubby. About the Charlotte Checkers
The Checkers are on the road against the Wheeling Nailers tonight and Saturday, and will travel to face the defending Kelly Cup Champion Trenton Titans on Friday. The Checkers will return home for a three-game homestand beginning with the Columbia Inferno on Monday, December 5th.
