
Loons Split Doubleheader, Rushing Homers Twice

Midland, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons (70-48) (25-28) and Fort Wayne TinCaps (61-58) (29-24) each took a win in the doubleheader. The TinCaps won 4-2 in game one, and the Loons were victorious 5-0 in game two on a 70-degree partly cloudy Saturday night at Dow Diamond in front of 6061 fans.
Dalton Rushing slammed a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh in game one, the 22-year-old followed that up with a two-run shot in the second inning in game two to give Great Lakes a 2-0 lead. The Dodgers No. 1 has three hits in his last three games, all home runs.
Jerming Rosario, in game two, threw five scoreless innings with just one baserunner that reached. The 21-year-old retired the first 12 he faced, half were via the strikeout.
In game two, the Loons scored three insurance runs. Yeiner Fernandez plated two with an RBI double in the fourth, and Taylor Young sliced an RBI double in the sixth. Fernandez has driven in four runs in the series, and Young has three.
Jack Dreyer delivered four strikeouts in the final two innings of game two, securing the shutout.
The TinCaps had only one multi-hit inning through the 14 played. In the top of the fifth in game one, Nerwilian Cedeno doubled, and a bunt single from Tyler Robertson forced a throwing error to first base allowing Cedeno to score. A walk came next, and then a two-run single from Griffin Doersching.
A Maddux Bruns balk saw the day's first run in the third inning. The Dodgers No. 18 prospect permitted four runs in 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.
The Loons have won three of the five games played and go for a series win tomorrow Sunday, August 27th. The first pitch is at 1:05 p.m. It is a Kids Club Takeover Day presented by MyMichigan Health, Kids Eat Free & Run The Bases brought to you by EGLE, and a Hope At Bat game a campaign by the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness in support of cancer research.
