Mississippi Braves News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Chattanooga Lookouts (48-38, 8-6) used another big inning to beat the Mississippi Braves (39-42, 6-7) 11-3 on Saturday night. The loss is the sixth straight suffered by the M-Braves at AT&T Field.
The middle game of the three-game set began well for Mississippi on Saturday by jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cody Milligan, Cal Conley, and Luke Waddell singled to start the game, but Milligan was thrown out at second trying to stretch his into a double. The fourth batter of the inning Cade Bunnell reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Javier Valdes followed with a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Conley.
M-Braves starter Tanner Gordon (L, 4-4) struck out four over the first two innings but ran into trouble in the third. The Lookouts sent ten batters to the plate and scored seven runs to take a 7-1 lead. The inning was capped by a two-run triple by Drew Mount and a two-run home run from Jose Torres. Gordon allowed seven earned runs over three innings with four strikeouts and two walks in his tenth Mississippi start.
Hayden Harris provided outstanding relief in his seventh Double-A appearance, only allowing an unearned run in the fourth inning but striking out six over three innings. Harris has a 1.35 ERA.
The M-Braves showed some life in the top of the eighth inning. Conley smacked his 14th double of the year to bring in two runs and trim the lead to 8-3. Chattanooga took advantage of two of the five M-Braves errors in the bottom of the inning to score three runs and take an 11-3 lead.
Chattanooga starter Julien Aguiar (W, 1-0) earned his first Double-A win in his first Double-A start with five innings of one-run baseball. The five Mississippi errors on Saturday night tied a club record, while the team has tallied nine the past two nights.
Milligan remains a bright spot for the offense, picking up two more hits, and is now 4-for-7 in his first two games back from the injured list.
The M-Braves will try to avoid a sweep on Sunday with the finale of their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field. LHP Luis De Avila (5-5, 3.52) will start for Mississippi against RHP Lyon Richardson (0-2, 2.25) for Chattanooga. The first pitch is at 6:15 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park for 13 games in 13 days, from July 25 to August 6, against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Montgomery Biscuits. Fans can purchase tickets by visiting the Trustmark Park box office and visiting mississippibraves.com.
