Lookouts Take Second Loss of the Season
April 5, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
The Chattanooga Lookouts (1-2) and the Jackson Generals (2-1) met up for the third time this season on Saturday night in a matchup between two southpaws. Generals' lefty Cam Hobson (W, 1-0) managed to outduel Lookouts' starting pitcher Chris Reed (L, 0-1) to procure the 6-1 win for the Generals in front of a season-high crowd of 5,646 at AT&T Field.
In the first inning, the Lookouts jumped out to an early one-run lead on back-to-back doubles by Daniel Mayora and O'Koyea Dickson, but the game turned into a pitcher's duel from there.
Reed was able to get through the first five innings unscathed, but two errors in the sixth hurt his cause. Reed left the game in the sixth with the bases loaded and two outs after an error behind him allowed the Generals to tie the game at one. The next Generals' batter, Jamal Austin, got a hit and drove in two more runs before the Lookouts could close the book on the inning.
Down two runs the Lookouts offense was unable to get anything going against Hobson. After giving up the run in the first inning, he retired 14 of the next 16 hitters he faced.
The Generals plated one run in the eighth and two more in the night to close out the game with the Lookouts on the wrong end of a 6-1 final score. Reed took his first loss of the season, even though the runs that were charged to him were unearned. The number eight prospect in the Dodgers' organization ended the night with four strikeouts and still has a pristine 0.00 ERA.
Tomorrow, the Lookouts have RHP Andres Santiago pitching against RHP Victor Sanchez with a chance to even the series back up again on Sunday. Don't forget to bring your gloves to the game, as the Lookouts will give fans a chance to play catch on the field following the game.
