Mobile BayBears News Release
PEARL, MS - The Mobile BayBears fell for the first time in 2014, suffering a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Mississippi Braves Saturday night at Trustmark Park. Mobile was limited to just two runs on four hits, their lowest total in both categories through the first three games of the year. The loss snapped a streak of nine straight wins for Mobile over Mississippi dating back to last season.
The M-Braves scored the first run of the game for the first time in the opening series when Seth Loman hit a solo homer off of former teammate RHP Mike Lee (0-1). Lee sat down 12 of the first 15 batters he faced but settled for the loss. Lee threw a total of 80 pitches, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Mobile would tie the game at one a point in the fourth inning when David Peralta scored on a RBI single from Tom Belza. The Braves again took the lead in the fifth and would not surrender it the rest of the contest. The only other BayBear run came in the eighth inning with Justin Greene drove home Mike Freeman with and RBI triple.
Starting RHP Williams Perez did not factor in the outcome for Mississippi. Perez retired the first 11 batters he faced and allowed just one run on two hits in four innings on the mound. The win was credited to LHP Ronan Pacheco (1-0) who pitched a scoreless fifth inning. M-Braves RHP Shae Simmions earned his first save of the season, limiting the BayBears to just one lone hit in the ninth inning.
The BayBears and Braves are scheduled to continue their series with game four on Sunday set from 1PM, but there is a threat of heavy rain fall in the Pear area throughout the day. RHP Bryan Woodall (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start of the year against RHP J.R. Graham (0-0, 0.00) for the M-Braves. Mobile begins their home schedule on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:05 PM against the Montgomery Biscuits. Tickets are on sale now by calling 251.479.BEAR or online at MobileBayBears.com.
