Peralta, Weber Lead BayBears Past Braves

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves took a 3-1 lead into the seventh, but the Mobile BayBears plated runs in each of the final three frames to defeat the M-Braves 7-5 at Trustmark Park Friday evening. The series continues with game three Saturday at 6:00 PM.

Mississippi (0-2) scored five runs on nine hits while Mobile (2-0) plated seven runs on 10 hits. Seth Loman and Gustavo Nunez led the Braves with two hits apiece. Nunez also scored two runs. David Peralta led the BayBears with a three-hit night including two RBI and two runs scored. Garrett Weber also had three hits for the BayBears.

The BayBears took a 1-0 lead in the first. Mike Freeman walked and Weber singled to put runners at the corners. Freeman then came in to score on a Jake Lamb grounder, giving Mobile the early advantage for the second consecutive night.

The M-Braves tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth. Nunez doubled with one out. Ryan Weber then laid down a sacrifice bunt and the catcher overthrew first base, allowing Nunez to score from second on the play.

Kyle Kubitza led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to left field. He took second on an error and scored on Loman's double to right field. David Rohm followed with a RBI-single to left, extending the M-Braves lead to 3-1.

Mobile responded in the seventh. Raywilly Gomez walked and Justin Greene singled to start the frame. Freeman grounded into a force out at second, leaving runners at the corners with two out. Weber then singled to center, plating Gomez and cutting the Braves lead to 3-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, the M-Braves took a 4-2 advantage. Matt Lipka was hit by a pitch with two outs. He stole second and came in to score on Emerson Landoni's singled to second.

Jordan Parraz walked to start the BayBears half of the eighth, and Peralta followed with a base hit to right. An errant throw on a sacrifice bunt allowed Parraz to score and cut the Braves lead to 4-3. A ground out tied the game before Gomez drove in the go-ahead run.

Peralta blasted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to pad the BayBears lead, 7-4. Mississippi responded in the bottom of the frame when Nunez singled and scored on Lipka's double to right.

In his Double-A debut, Braves righty Jason Hursh tossed four innings. He limited the BayBears to one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out one. Andrew Chafin started and worked five innings for the BayBears. He gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters.

Patrick Schuster (1-0) picked up the win while James Hoyt (0-1) took the loss. Jake Barrett worked the final frame to pick up his first save of the season.

Braves right-hander Williams Perez counters Mobile righty and former M-Brave Mike Lee. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM Saturday. Gates open at 5:00 PM. The M-Braves will be giving away Andrelton Simmons bobbleheads to the first 1,500 fans through the gates.
