Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves out hit the Mobile BayBears 10-to-4 en route to a 4-2 victory Saturday night at Trustmark Park. The win was the first victory for the M-Braves this season. The series continues with game four of five Sunday at 1:00 PM.

The M-Braves (1-2) scored four runs on 10 hits while the BayBears (2-1) plated two runs on four hits. Mobile also made one error. Gustavo Nunez led the Braves at the plate, gathering three hits on the night. Seth Lomen and Matt Kennelly each added two hits. Loman also scored two runs and drove in one run.

Loman led off the bottom of the second with a solo blast over the visiting bullpen, putting the M-Braves out front early. Loman's homer was the first home run by an M-Braves player this season.

In the top of the fourth, David Peralta singled with two outs. A ball-four wild pitch put runners at the corners. Tom Belza then singled to drive in Peralta and tie the game at 1-1.

The M-Braves regained a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Nunez singled and moved to second on a ground out. Kyle Kubitza followed with a pinch-hit single to right. He took second on the throw home to move into scoring position. Matt Lipka then grounded out to short, allowing Nunez to score the go-ahead run.

The M-Braves added another run in the seventh to make it a 3-1 game. Kennelly led off with a single to third and Barrett Kleinknecht delivered a pinch-hit double. A ground out allowed Kennelly to score and extend the Braves lead.

Mobile made it a one-run game in the eighth when Mike Freeman walked and scored on a Justin Greene triple to center field. Mississippi added another run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-2. Loman singled and Robby Hefflinger walked. Nunez then delivered a RBI-single to right field.

Williams Perez worked four innings for the M-Braves but did not factor in the decision. He limited the BayBears to one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out four batters.

Ronan Pacheco (1-0) came on in the fifth to work a scoreless inning and pick up the win. Shae Simmons (S, 1) recorded the final three outs to notch his first save of the season. Former M-Brave Mike Lee (0-1) tossed six innings for the BayBears. He gave up two earned runs on six hits, a homer and one walk while fanning two batters.

In game four of this five-game series, M-Braves right-hander J.R. Graham toes the rubber. He'll counter Mobile righty Bryan Woodall. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM Sunday. Gates open at 12:00 PM.
