Chattanooga, Tenn. - Drew Anderson belted an eleventh inning, leadoff homerun to give the Chattanooga Lookouts (53-61, 24-20) a 5-4 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (70-44, 29-15) in front of 1,981 with a heat index of 106 degrees Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field.
Jacksonville entered Sunday three games ahead of the Montgomery Biscuits in the second half South Division race. With the win Chattanooga stayed two and a half games back of the first place Huntsville Stars in the second half North Division race.
The Lookouts opened the scoring in the first inning against Suns starter Joey Norrito with an unearned run. Leadoff man Adam Rosales reached on an error to begin the inning, and with two out Danny Dorn drove him home with a single to make it 1-0.
The Suns tied the game in the third inning against Chattanooga starter Justin Mallett with an unearned run of their own. Jimmy Rohan led off with a double and later scored on a throwing error from shortstop Canonabo Cosme to tie the game 1-1.
Chattanooga regained the advantage in the fourth inning as Shaun Cumberland singled home Cosme with one out for a 2-1 lead. Lookouts first baseman Adam Rosales hit a fifth inning homerun with one out, his second homerun in as many days, opening a 3-1 lead.
Suns starter Joey Norrito went six innings with three runs, two earned, on seven hits without a walk and two strikeouts. Lookouts starter Justin Mallett lasted five innings while giving up one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Jacksonville found their offensive footing against Lookouts reliever Carlos Guevara in the seventh inning. After the first two batters were out Jimmy Rohan doubled down the right field line. Thomas Giles next pinch hit and belted a two-run homerun over the right field wall to tie the game 3-3.
The Suns bolted ahead in the eighth inning as Lookouts reliever Pedro Viola gave up a two-out, solo homerun to Anthony Raglani, his 17th of the season, for a 4-3 Jacksonville lead.
The lead did not last long as Chattanooga's Luis Bolivar came through against Suns reliever Brian Akin with a two-out, pinch single to plate Danny Dorn and tie the game 4-4.
Chattanooga had chances to end the game in the ninth and tenth innings. Adam Rosales tripled with one out in the ninth, but the next two men went down in order to end the threat. Canonabo Cosme doubled with one out in the tenth inning against reliever Mark Alexander but following an intentional walk pitcher Ramon Ramirez lined into a double play to finish the inning.
The Lookouts came through in the eleventh inning against reliever Ramon Troncoso when Drew Anderson belted a leadoff homerun to end the game 5-4.
Ramon Ramirez (4-1) got the win for Chattanooga while Ramon Troncoso (6-2) fell in the loss.
