Lookouts Fall to Smokies, 6-5

In a game that started out fast and furious, the Tennessee Smokies (33-34) scored the only run after the third inning to lead them past the Chattanooga Lookouts (32-33), 6-5. The loss puts the two teams into a tie for first place in the North Division with only three games left in the 2014 regular season.

The Smokies got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, but Darnell Sweeney answered back with a double to kick things off for Chattanooga in the bottom of the inning. Sweeney manufactured a run all by himself by taking third on a passed ball and scoring on a wild pitch by Smokies' starting pitcher Corey Black. That run had little effect since the Smokies' Anthony Giansanti recorded a solo home run the very next half-inning.

In the bottom of the second the bats came to life for the Lookouts. Chris O'Brien went deep to lead off the inning. His homer marked the second time in the last two games that he has sent a solo bomb out of the park in the second inning.

Immediately following O'Brien's home run, O'Koyea Dickson hit a single and came all the way around to score on Noel Cuevas' RBI double. Cuevas reached third on a sacrifice bunt and subsequently tied the game at four runs each on a sacrifice fly by Coyle Jr.

The Lookouts walked in a run in the top of the third inning, but Daniel Mayora tied the game again with a solo shot of his own to knot the game at five.

Giansanti broke the tie in the fifth inning with his second RBI of the night which proved to be the decisive run for the Smokies.

The Lookouts will look to get back to their winning ways Saturday night at 7:15 pm. Pitching for Chattanooga will be RHP Matt Shelton (4-4, 4.19) and he will be going up against RHP C.J. Edwards (1-1, 2.25) of the Smokies.
