
Kivlehan, Marte Named Southern League Postseason All-Stars

MONTGOMERY, ALA (August 28, 2014). - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced the 2014 Post-season All-Star Team as voted upon by the league's field managers, radio broadcasters and print media. Ketel Marte was named the league's top shortstop and Patrick Kivlehan was named as the top utility player this season.
20-year-old Ketel Marte batted .302 (134x443) in 109 games for Jackson prior to his promotion to Triple-A Tacoma on August 10. He added 27 doubles, six triples, two home runs, 46 RBI and 23 stolen bases in his time with the Generals. At the time of his promotion, Marte was the league-leader in hits (134). Since joining Triple-A Tacoma, Marte in 15 games is batting .313 (20x64), with four doubles, two home runs, six RBI and four stolen bases.
24-year-old Patrick Kivlehan is currently batting .301 (109x362) with 60 runs scored, 22 doubles, seven triples, 11 home runs, 67 RBI and nine stolen bases in 100 Southern League games. Kivlehan currently ranks seventh in the league in batting (.301), tied for seventh in RBI (67). Kivlehan has shown his versatility in 2014 by making starts at first base, third base, designated hitter and all three outfield spots. Overall this season, Kivlehan is batting .296 (149x504) with 20 home runs, 31 doubles, nine triples, 102 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Overall, Kivlehan ranks second in minor league baseball having played in 134 games and is tied for fourth in in RBI (102). Kivlehan was selected by the Mariners in the 4th round of the 2012 draft out of Rutgers.
The Generals play game two of a five-game series tonight in Montgomery.
