Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts gave it the ole college try by overcoming a five-run deficit but ultimately succumbed to an 8-7 loss to the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx in Tuesday night action at AT&T Field.

The Diamond Jaxx jumped out in front of the Lookouts, 2-0, in the second frame. Michael Wilson began the inning with a double and scored after consecutive singles from Jon Nelson and Adam Moore. Their second run of the inning came on a Jeffrey Dominguez RBI double.

Chattanooga halved their deficit in the third on an RBI double to center by Justin Turner.

West Tennessee augmented their lead in fourth by scoring three runs on a trio of singles from Moore, Matt Magini, and Dominguez. A throwing error by third baseman Drew Anderson also contributed to the Diamond Jaxx rally.

The Diamond Jaxx stretched their lead to 6-1 in the sixth on a Brent Johnson RBI single, but that run's effect was erased in the bottom portion of the inning by the Lookouts. Shaun Cumberland blasted a triple to begin the inning and promptly scored on a Chris Valaika ground out.

With every advancement by the Lookouts in the early and middle innings, West Tennessee quickly countered, and the seventh inning was no exception. Mangini came through with another RBI single to put the Diamond Jaxx lead at 7-2.

Chattanooga came roaring back in a big way in the eighth inning. With one out, Tonys Guiterrez hit a sac fly to bring Chris Valaika. The real damage occurred with a humble beginning: two outs and the bases empty. An Eric Eymann single, Michael DeJesus walk, and Justin Turner hit by pitch loaded the bases. Marwin Vega's (2-2) inability to close the door in the eighth caught up to him in a big way, as Danny Dorn tied the game with a mammoth grand slam shot over the wall in right center field.

The Lookouts commendable comeback proved to be nothing more than a Sisyphean effort, as Adam Moore broke the tie with a game-winning solo shot in the ninth off of Pedro Viola (1-5).

Shawn Kelly retired the side in the ninth to notch his second save of the season for the Diamond Jaxx.

Chattanooga will continue with their four-game homestand against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx at 12:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
