Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced the North Division roster for the 2008 All-Star Game. The roster contains four Lookouts: INF Eric Eymann, OF Shaun Cumberland, LHP Ben Jukich, and RHP Robert Manuel. Additionally, SS Chris Valaika has been chosen to represent the United States in the 2008 Futures Game at Yankee Stadium.
Eymann, who tied a Lookouts franchise record with eight RBIs in one game (5/18 vs. Mississippi), currently is hitting .292 with 20 doubles (team leader), three homers, and 42 RBIs (team leader). He also leads the Lookouts in hits with 75.
In a season where the Lookouts have had solid all-around production out of their outfielders, Cumberland has shined by hitting .315 (team leader; sixth in Southern League) with 11 doubles, three triples, eight homers, and 12 stolen bases. He also sports a .407 obp and leads the team with an .896 OPS.
Jukich has stepped up as the ace of the Lookouts' rotation. He currently sports a 7-3 record (t-3rd in wins in Southern League) with a 2.78 ERA (fourth in Southern League). Additionally, the lefty has been a workhorse, accruing 100.1 innings (second in Southern League) with 80 strikeouts (t-fifth in Southern League).
Manuel has quietly put together a stellar season as an integral arm in the Lookouts' bullpen. In 42.2 innings of work, he has yielded just 28 hits and eight walks, while striking out 55 batters. He currently holds a 3-1 record with a 1.27 ERA.
Valaika began the season with Sarasota (high-A), where he hit an impressive .363 to go with nine doubles, seven homers, and 31 RBIs. After a slow start with Chattanooga, the former member of the U.S. National Team has heated up and is currently batting .275 in a Lookouts' uniform. He also has slugged 11 doubles and five homers for Chattanooga.
Chattanooga will continue with their four-game homestand against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx at 7:15 P.M., tonight. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
