Lookouts 1-Hit Smokies in 8-1 Win
June 30, 2023 - Southern League (SL)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
The Chattanooga Lookouts rebounded after a tough loss last night to defeat the Smokies, 8-1.
Ivan Johnson got the team off on the right foot smacking a single to right field and scoring on an Alex McGarry RBI single. An inning later Michael Trautwein smashed his first double-a home run to make it 2-0 Lookouts. Chattanooga increased their lead to three in the third when Francisco Urbaez scored on a throwing error.
Staked to a three-run lead the Lookouts pitching staff stymied the Smokies. Starting pitcher Lyon Richardson only allowed one hit in his three innings of work and lowers his season ERA to 2.19. After Richardson left the game in the third, the Lookouts bullpen took over and delivered six hitless innings in relief. Manuel Cachutt (W, 2-0), Donovan Benoit (H,4), Ryan Meisinger (H, 1), and Vin Timpanelli all made appearances and recorded at least a strikeout each.
Tennessee scraped across an unearned run in the seventh to cut the deficit down to two, but the Lookouts offense exploded for five runs in the bottom of that frame. A bases-loaded walk brought in the first run and then back-to-back two-run doubles by Blake Dunn and Johnson made it 8-1 Chattanooga.
Tomorrow, the Lookouts send out Carson Spiers to face off against the Smokies on a Saturday Night game featuring the World Famous ZOOperstars! The first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
