
Franklin, de Avila Guide M-Braves to 4-1 Win on Friday Night

BILOXI, MS - Jesse Franklin V came a triple shy of the cycle on, and starter Luis De Avila earned his fifth win as the Mississippi Braves snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Biloxi Shuckers 4-1 on Friday night.
The 22-year-old De Avila finished his impressive June with 5.2 innings of one-run ball at MGM Park, logging his third win in June and fifth of the year. The Columbia native struck out four and walked two. Over five starts in June, De Avila went 3-0 with a league-best 1.61 ERA. He lowered his season ERA to 2.91 over 14 starts, which is second in the Southern League.
The red-hot Luke Waddell started Mississippi's (34-37, 1-2) scoring in the top of the third inning. Cal Conley hit a one-out single down the right field line, logged his 20th stolen bases of the year, and then scored on Waddell's fifth RBI of the series, a single up the middle. Cade Bunnell followed with a single, then Javier Valdes walked to load the bases for Franklin. After smacking a double in the second inning, the Michigan product singled home Waddell and Bunnell to put the M-Braves up 3-0.
Franklin led off the sixth inning and hit the first pitch from Biloxi (36-37, 2-1) reliever Nick Bennett 402 feet over the right-center field wall for his sixth home run, upping the lead to 4-1.
De Avila exited with 81 pitches in the sixth inning with two outs, turning the game over to the bullpen. Biloxi plated their lone run in the frame on an RBI double from Tyler Black. Jake McSteen worked 1.1 scoreless, and Victor Vodnik added a scoreless frame in the eighth. Daysbel Hernandez slammed the door in the ninth with his second save, striking out the side. Hernandez has yet to allow a run over 11.0 innings and ten appearances for the M-Braves.
Conley ran his on-base streak to 11 consecutive games on Friday, and Bunnell upped his hitting streak to five games. Franklin was 3-for-4 with a home run, double, single, and three RBI. Valdes walked twice and has reached base safely in 26 of 28 games.
The fourth game of the series is on Saturday at MGM Park. LHP Domingo Robles (5-5, 3.41) will pitch for Mississippi,, while RHP Tobias Myers (4-2, 5.21) will start for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park on Tuesday for an Independence Day Celebration with the City of Pearl. The first pitch is 6:05 against the Montgomery Biscuits, with a Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi following the game.
