
Long Island Splits Series With Windy City

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (6-3), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, were defeated by the Windy City Bulls (3-4) 121-118 on Wednesday evening at Nassau Coliseum.
Brooklyn assignee Day'Ron Sharpe notched his second consecutive double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds to go along with three assists and four blocks in 33 minutes. Brooklyn two-way guard David Duke Jr. recorded his second double-double of the NBA G League season with 19 points and 10 rebounds in addition to six assists and one steal in 37 minutes. Additionally, Brooklyn assignee Kessler Edwards tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds and one assist in 40 minutes while on assignment with Long Island.
Windy City set the pace against Long Island in the first quarter, as the Bulls went on a 9-2 run during the opening five minutes. Despite the Nets shooting 62.5 percent from long range in the quarter and outrebounding the Bulls 13-10, they were unable to take the lead. The Bulls closed the period ahead by three, 36-33. Long Island found its rhythm in the second quarter when the Nets took the lead and led by as many as 11, while holding Windy City 26.7 percent shooting from the field. The Bulls could not recover and Long Island went into halftime ahead 63-52.
Long Island maintained its energy, but Windy City got the best of the Nets in the third quarter. The Bulls outscored Long Island 36-25 and closed the period tied 88-88. The two teams continued their back-and-forth play into the fourth quarter, but Windy City slipped away. The Bulls defeated the Nets by three, 121-118.
Bulls forward Javon Freeman-Liberty tallied 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes. Windy City guard Ethan Thompson posted 23 points, six rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes.
Long Island will face Grand Rapids during its annual affiliate night game on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. ET, while Windy City will return home to face Cleveland on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 8 p.m. CT.
